who have visited Tenerife in the past may be familiar with the little white water station that sits on the side of the mountain just above Torviscas Alto. I had often wondered what it was like and imagined what it would be like converted into a family home.
High on the hillside and overlooking Tenerife South it would be an amazing property to own and a magnificent place to live but, would it be practicable? These were only passing musses, thoughts and ponderings, so I never bothered to investigate.
Several weeks ago we were contacted by a client who had seen our properties on Daltons Business website. The client had registered an interest in a business that we had for sale in Tenerife. A few days later, he visited Tenerife and we met him at the airport. It was Afkar's first time in Tenerife but he had heard many positive things about the island so, having sold his previous businesses in Copenhagen, he had decided to come over and take a look. |
Spending time with Afkar was a joy and it was obvious from the first day we met him that he knew what he was talking about. He was an experienced chef who had run several pizza and Kebab businesses in Copenhagen. Tenerife Business & Commercial Sales were about to find out just how good he was! Afkar invited us to his home in Mira Verde at the end of a full day viewing potential businesses in Tenerife and cooked us a masala. Well, talk about blown away. This stuff was amazing. We have since had several dinners together and he has even been to our home to give me cooking lessons!
Whilst out viewing one day, Afkar asked me about the white house on the hill. I told him that it was something to do with pumping water from the mountain to the south. I was a little taken aback when he suggested we go and look, but thought a bit of a walk would probably do me well as I needed to lose a few pounds!

The next evening at 5pm we set off. The track leaves from Hyper Dino in Fanabe. First of all we passed through a banana plantation which was great because a couple of bananas would give us extra energy. Then we started to climb up a dusty track and into the mountain.
As we walked up we found an abandoned vehicle which Afkar thought might get us to the top.
The walk gave us chance to discuss his plans for the new business in Tenerife that he had decided to buy. It is a cafe bar in Las Americas close to the beach. He is going to specialise in Pizzas and kebabs because there are not too many pizza and kebab takeaways in Tenerife.
Tenerife Business & Commercial Sales are professional valuers so we know that he is safe with the choice he has made and with his experience we are confident that he will do well. There are many agents in Tenerife who put businesses up for sale at the price the owner wants to ask and when questioned how they arrived at the valuation, they simply say that it¥s what the owner wanted because he paid more than that five years ago. In our opinion this can be risky because they are not carrying out a professional valuation based on the merits of the business.
As we climbed higher we could see the banana plantation was next to a riding school. The diversity in Tenerife never ceases to amaze me. By this stage I was glad of the bananas!

Buying a business in Tenerife is a safe bet providing that you do your research. There should be several things that you need to know before making a decision:
• The history of the business (how and when it was started, it`s performance and growth)
• The financial situation regarding cash flow, debts and expenses
• The current turnover and profit
• Ability to perform both now and in the future
• The businesses reputation
• The terms and conditions of the lease
• The business environment and is it fit for purpose
• Clientele information
• Is the price reasonable
There are other things to take into account and a professional business transfer agent will help you with these evaluations so you should have nothing to worry about.
I have to be honest and say that it was a bit of a relief when we got there. It wasn`t Everest but even so, it's a bit of a trek!
And maybe it needs a bit more work than I thought! Oh well, who would want to drive up here every night after a hard day at the office. Perhaps we are better off staying down at Torviscas Alto.
