The hotel was acquired by our clients in 1996 at which point the premises and business were extremely run down due to poor management.
The refurbishment commenced immediately and has been ongoing ever since to ensure the high standards are maintained throughout the hotel.
The owners styling reflects their passions for the arts, with each individual Bedroom hand crafted in its own theme. The end result of all this hard work is an impressive 14 bedroom boutique style hotel known as the Hotel Continental.
Throughout the year the hotel is filled with travellers from all over the world. Some are there for long periods others are between cruises and stopping off for just a few days before returning to their ferries docked in Harwich.
There is a restaurant set inside a marble veneered octagonal extension which was added by our clients in 2005. Adjacent to the restaurant there is a large bar area which is open to residents and members of the public for alcoholic and non-alcoholic refreshments. The bar is a highly profitable income stream to the business turning over 300 barrels a year.
Since the acquisition of the hotel, our clients have expertly built up the business to its current level which returns average occupancy rates well above average in the South-East

The Hotel Continental is situated in a prime position overlooking Dovercourt Bay’s award winning blue flag beaches. Dovercourt is the residential and holiday suburb of Harwich. Surrounding the hotel are fine promenade areas and restaurants. With excellent waters, sailing, windsurfing and angling are all popular activities. In addition to the beach being on the doorstep, within close proximity there are major road (A120) and rail links providing easy and convenient access to the hotel.
