The Pennan Inn, run by the current owners since 2009, has been tastefully refurbished throughout and is operated to suit their own lifestyles. The business operates from March through to October but the trading season could easily be extended. The business is licensed from 12 midday to 11 pm and is closed on Mondays. Although there is demand for lunches throughout the week this is currently only provided at the weekend. The owners have chosen to concentrate now on evening meals, the bar and accommodation having just completed the substantial refurbishment of the bedrooms and upper floor. The business is run by the two owners, one as chef and the other front of house and one full time member of staff. This is the first season that all of the letting rooms have been available for public use. There is restaurant which has 22 covers, as well as a private dining room which serves upto 8 covers.
This is a strong business that benefits from a good mix of income from wet, food and dry sales.
Pennan is a charming single street village located at the bottom of a steep winding road at the foot of the north facing cliffs with views across the Moray Firth. A traditional fishing village it still maintains a small Harbour that is now mainly used for leisure craft. The village is a haven of tranquility and an area with some outstanding natural wildlife, including colonies of birds dolphins, seals and even the occasional whale can be seen out at sea. Pennan was the set location for the 1983 film Local Hero. The iconic red phone box is located just outside the Inn. Shopping facilities and other amenities are available at nearby Banff (10 miles) and Fraserburgh (12 miles). Primary and secondary schooling is available in Banff. Aberdeen (44 miles) with its international airport and rail link is approximately 45 minutes' drive away. Pennan has a unique atmosphere and character only experienced by visiting it.
