Olympian launches Premier Sport’s brand new health & fitness programme
On Tuesday 14th January Olympian and mum of three, Sally Gunnell OBE officially launched Premier Transition, the latest brand offering brought to market by Premier Sport. Sally took to national and local media, including, Sky News, the Chris Evans Breakfast Show and many more to highlight the importance Premier Transition has to play in developing healthy attitudes to life from an early age.
Premier Transition has been in development over the past 18months, and is the third offering from Premier Sport to support the expanding network of franchisees. Transition not only services Premiers existing customers, but opens up new markets including adults and early years.
The launch couldn’t have been more timely, with recent research showing Children across the UK are missing out on the best possible start in life because their parents don’t have the time, money or knowledge to help them lead a healthier lifestyle, a survey suggests*.
Two thirds of parents polled by leading children’s coaching company Premier Sport say they don’t know enough to educate their children about healthy living, while 37% blame lack of time and 30% cite the cost of healthy food and gym facilities as a barrier.
The survey also found that despite just 16% of children leading the healthiest lifestyle in their household, less than half of parents will be encouraging their children to get fitter over the next 12 months.
Olympic gold medallist, Premier Sport supporter and mother-of-three, Sally Gunnell OBE, is shocked by the figures and says families need more support to get active if future generations are to stay fit and healthy.
She said: “These are truly worrying statistics. Parents lead very busy lives, but we are facing a child obesity epidemic, so it’s vital that we do all we can to give our kids the best start in life. A positive approach to healthy living starts in the home, but there’s plenty the wider community, including schools, can do to support parents and ensure a joined up approach to family wellbeing.”
The former 400m hurdler was speaking as Premier Sport officially launched its pioneering Premier Transition program – a unique health and wellbeing initiative enabling early years support, nurseries, primary schools and parents to work together to improve family fitness.
The scheme - thought to be the first of its kind anywhere in the UK - gives parents the chance to attend fitness classes at their child’s school straight after dropping them off, or just before picking them up. Participating schools are also given a 6-12 week program to educate pupils on the importance of active, healthy lifestyles – a key part of the national curriculum’s focus on wellbeing.
Research from Premier Sport last year found that just 10% of UK youngsters are doing physical activity every day at school, while only 25% are managing an hour or more’s exercise a day.

Premier Sport vs. Ninja Warrior UK – coming soon to ITV!
Premier Sport’s very own, Miranda Rickard is set to appear on the new series of ITV’s Ninja Warrior UK, airing in 2016. From 17,000 applicants she was one of 250 contestants to make the final cut for the hit show, presented by Ben Sheppard, Chris Kamara and Rochelle Humes.
Miranda, Premier Sport’s Area Coordinator in Plymouth is confident she can complete the gruelling obstacle course, pressing that red buzzer and become only the second female to reach the final round and crowned Nina Warrior.
The self acclaimed fitness fanatic loves all aspects of the physical challenge. She certainly has the minerals to complete the daunting assault course following her recent 1st place at a GoHARD event, 3rd place in a Kamikaze event and set to compete at theOCR UK championship in November, which is an independent national competition celebrating our home-grown British elite runners.
Her appearance on the show, she hopes will have a huge impact and prove an even greater inspiration to the children she’s already inspiring through her work with Premier Sport. We caught up with Miranda who’s only goal at this stage is not to fall victim of that first obstacle, like so many before her have...
“It’s all a bit surreal at the moment! I just don't want to be ‘that contestant’ who’s wiped out in the first few seconds! Having said that, I applied knowing I can be a real contender for the women as there was only one women that got through on the first series," Miranda commented.
"The audition was physically very challenging having to do various obstacles and being scored at each stage. These consisted of a 200m timed sprint, one attempt at a wall run, various jumps and rope swings, 15 pull ups, wall traversing and a balance test. I then had a five minute interview on camera at the end of the audition. It was then a matter of, ‘we will call you, don't call us’ type scenario. At that stage i didn’t’ think i would make it....but I got the call!”, she continued to say.
Since we spoke to Miranda she’s taken to the course for her once-in-a-lifetime attempt to become Ninja Warrior UK. Giving nothing away, we’ll have to wait until 2016 to see just how our very own Premier Sport daredevil fared on television's most gruelling challenge.
Premier travel to Tanzania forming new partnership #morethansport
Premier Sport travelled to Tanzania in August as part of ‘The Rafiki Group’, a charity comprising of several partnerships between schools in Devon, USA and schools from Tanzania.
Premier Sport’s Area Coordinator, Alex Ford (pictured right) travelled to Tanzania this weekend along with the Head and staff from Redhills Community Primary School in Devon, a school that Premier Sport have partnered with for just over a year now. Alex’s role will be to deliver sports coaching in a number of Tanzanian schools, similar to the work Premier Sport deliver to 3000+ schools across the UK. Alex will deliver inspirational PE lessons to the children at Donge School in Tanga whilst up skilling the current members of staff and other charity volunteers.
Head Teacher from Redhills Primary School comments: 'We've had strong links with Tanzania for a number of years and are really looking forward to Premier Sport being involved in our link.'
The primary aim of the Rafiki Group, a collection of 4 Devon Schools partnered with Tanzanian schools, is clear; develop a strong ethos of the global village for the pupils of all schools, creating a strong channel of communication between pupils to deliver understanding of differing and shared beliefs, values and concepts. All schools have pledged to achieve this global village ethos with partners commit to two core objectives:

Jason Robinson to inspire the next generation of sporting stars at Chewits Sports Course in Bolton
Jason Robinson, the World Cup winning Rugby player, will share his tips to educate the importance of a healthy lifestyle to children at Gilnow Community Primary School, Bolton
The exclusive session with Jason will form part of a Chewits Sports Course, one of thousands that run daily during school holidays across the country. In conjunction with Premier Sport, Chewits created the courses to provide children with fun sporting activities, whilst educating them about the importance of exercise as part of a balanced lifestyle.
Jason has acquired a wealth of sporting knowledge during his illustrious career as an international rugby player. Playing at wing or fullback, he won fifty-one rugby union international test caps in total for England, and in rugby league he won twelve caps for Great Britain and seven for England. Undoubtedly one of the highlights of his career was playing in every game of England’s World Cup winning campaign in 2003.
The lucky children of Gilnow Primary school will participate in a Q&A session with Jason where he will demonstrate the importance of sport in his life and the role it could play in theirs to maintain a healthy regime. This will be followed by an exciting multi-sport activity delivered by Premier sport coaches, and of course, the star himself.
As a parent, Jason understands how important it is for kids to get out and stay active. Chewits sport courses provide a great opportunity for kids to enjoy a range of sports during the holidays while keeping a smile on their face. Throughout his career, Jason inspired the nation with his acceleration, side step and above all, his professionalism. We look forward to Monday when Jason will be inspiring the next generation to follow in his lightening speed footsteps.
Commonwealth Games hopeful inspires next generation
Our very own Premier Sport Activity Professional, Eugene Ayanful, is in inspiring mood.....
Not only is Eugene proving to be a huge inspiration to children as a role model delivering PE, Sport and Physical Activity to primary school children, he’s also aiming to achieve some pretty impressive goals of his own.
On the track, Eugene is working hard to ensure a place at this summer’s Commonwealth Games. Injury ruled him out of London 2012, but after some recent good form with victory in the 200m Indoor Championship in Vienna; Glasgow 2014 is a real possibility.
Following his victory in Vienna, Eugene will now compete in the upcoming European Championships and then the all important Commonwealth Games trials.
Away from the track, Eugene is one of 650 talented Premier Sport Activity Professionals’ delivering sport & physical activity to over 175,000 children each week. He’s delivering a variety of sports to children in primary schools across Essex and his aim is simple; to inspire and mentor young children through sport. This might be on TV competing at the Commonwealth Games or in schools coaching children.
A family member first noticed Eugene’s natural ability for sprinting as a child when competing for his school. He was then persuaded to attend his local running club later resulting in winning a number of District Championships blowing away his opposition in the process.
We caught up with Eugene - which isn't easy! - and discovered more about his journey;
"As a kid I loved watching British sprinters compete at the Olympics and this is where my passion for athletics started. I had a number of role models growing up including Darren Campbell, a true British championship performer as was my old mentor Jason Gardiner. I also remember the likes of John Regis, Linford Christie and Dwaine Chambers competing in major championships.
“I now hope to inspire the next generation of athletes through my coaching work with Premier Sport in schools and through my personal success on the track. Speaking from my own experiences, having a sporting role model is crucial to creating a passion for sports so I hope I can inspire others to participate in sport and physical activity.
“My short term goal is to compete at this year’s Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. My ultimate dream is to compete at the Rio Olympics in 2016 after failing to make the London 2012 Olympics in London due to injury.” Said Eugene
We will keep you posted on Eugene’s progress on the road to Rio, watch this space...
Dance crew member joins Premier Performing Arts
Whether it's popping, locking, breaking or krumping, Thomas Kilminster has had all the moves since a young boy. Now at the age of 23 he’ll be passing his dance moves onto children across Kent as he launches his very own Premier Performing Arts business.
Thomas’ passion for dance began when he was at school when his older brother started a Street Dance group in Essex, as the group got bigger he became more interested in different alternative dance styles, especially those that presented him with afresh challenge The dance group would later perform and compete locally and nationally in a number of dance competitions.
After leaving school Thomas attended college for two years studying a BTEC National Diploma in Public Services, his original career path was to enlist in the British Army as a Royal Engineer a million miles away from his career today.
Thomas continued his education at University studying Sports Coaching and Physical Education. His passion for dance continued and developed links within the dance community joining “British BBoy Association”.
The association was set up to help communities in running dance events and charity work to support the dance community. This experience assisted Thomas in gaining a deeper understanding of how to run children’s events and furthered his education in delivering physical education to a range of ages.
After finishing University he spent a year delivering dance in a number of studios, dance schools and in his local primary schools. At this point it became clear to Thomas that his true passion is working with children.
“Last year I joined Premier Sport as an Activity Professional delivering dance, this accelerated my personal knowledge within this sector. Premier Sport’s high level training and support has seen my style of delivery, professionalism and confidence develop enormously.
Since then, my passion for dance and desire to run my own business was perfect for the opportunity that Premier Performing Arts presented me. I’m delivering dance and other performing arts into schools which is a dream come true.
The feedback I have received to date has been very positive and I am looking forward to working alongside schools delivering dance and performing arts to thousands of children."
Are you feeling inspired by Thomas’ journey? We have a number of opportunities available to you across the UK. All you need to do is contact us and we’ll be in touch.
‘Outstanding’ from Premier Sport says Ofsted
We’re proud to announce that Lee Ryan has joined the growing list of Premier Sport Activity Professional's to be judged ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted. Lee’s PE session was observed following a recent surprise visit to High Bank JI&N School in Liversedge, West Yorkshire.
Head Teacher at the school, Karen Summers is delighted for Lee but more important thrilled her pupils have access to high quality PE & sport in the school.
“One of the Ofsted criteria for Sports Premium funding is to hire qualified sports coaches to work with primary teachers when teaching PE. Premier Sport have been supporting High Bank JI&N over recent weeks to improve the quality of sports coaching within the school. During a recent Ofsted the quality of teaching for a PE lesson delivered by Lee Ryan was judged to be 'Outstanding' which has significantly helped the school to demonstrate a significant improvement in the teaching of PE within the school curriculum” said Karen.
Since September, we’ve been overwhelmed by the growing number of our 600+ Activity Professional's achieving ‘Outstanding’ delivery in schools across the UK.
Since September 2013, Premier Education Group has invested over £100,000 in our local communities across the UK. We are serious about our community investment programme as we understand the power of regular physical activity - we want to help more people to become more active more often.
To date, over £80,000 of free or subsidised activity on Premier Sport sessions and Chewits Sports Courses has been provided reaching thousands of children. We have also matched funded schools to get active using The Golden Mile.
We have donated over £2,500 to support developing sports clubs and an aspiring 2016 Paralympian, Alfie Hewitt. We also continue to support the COMPASS association. The Compass Association, to which we are a founding member continue to strive for excellence in the schools sector and have been actively campaigning to raise the standards of delivery within a school environment.
We acknowledge that supporting young people and their learning doesn’t stop at the school gates. We are committed to improving life chances for people using sport & physical activity as the vehicle and partnerships to educate 16-18 year olds in formal qualifications, work programmes, apprenticeships and accredited vocational learning.
Cameron Announces Extension to the Ring Fenced Primary PE and Sport Premium
Prime Minister David Cameron has announced that primary schools in England will continue to receive the £150m per year sports funding until 2020.
With school sport and legacy an ongoing debate following London 2012, this announcement is a welcomed one for schools, parents, sports practitioners and most importantly children who will ultimately benefit from a long term, sustainable strategy to sport and physical activity.
Mr Cameron says, school sport has an important role in building "confidence and a sense of achievement".
The rise of childhood obesity and inactivity as highlighted in ukactive’s ‘Turning the tide of inactivity’ report published earlier this week, further evidences the need for there to be a real focus on engaging with the disengaged and promoting a healthier lifestyle across communities.
David Batch, Chief Executive of Premier Sport, the UK’s largest sport and physical activity provider of its kind comments: ” This is another fantastic step forward to ensuring that every child benefits from high quality PE & Sport.
The feedback since Sport Premium funding is that Head Teachers are now able to marry excellent outcomes with excellent value, as a result of joined up thinking and collaboration which they create as it suits their school. This announcement means that this excellent start can continue and impact even more children in the future.
I am sure that the many schools in which we work which Ofsted have classed as having Outstanding delivery and use of the Sport Premium funding, will continue to use a multi faceted approach to delivery including curricular enrichment, up-skilling their own staff and offering a variety of physical activity to all children in and out of the school day, including for the many previously disengaged from sport.
After 15 years of delivery in schools, we are delighted that Head Teachers recognise the sustainability of our support and that our intense staff training programmes have now become a recognised professional qualification. The value that we bring, with no hidden costs of absenteeism, equipment or staff departures added to the positive role models that are influencing their pupils, continue to cement already long lasting partnerships.”
Schools will be accountable for how they spend the fund and Ofsted will also be monitoring schools to ensure that the pupils are getting the best value from the fund.
Find out more about our #morethansport campaign
Premier Sport the UK's largest coaching company of its kind, launched its #morethansport campaign in December to prove sport and physical activity goes beyond the football pitch or running track.
The #morethansport campaign headed up by Premier Sport’s Head of Corporate Responsibility Rebecca Rose, aims to ensure that sport and physical activity is recognised as playing a key role in supporting and benefiting communities and society as a whole.
Successfully delivering more than 20,000 sport and physical activity sessions every month, the Premier Sport team are acutely aware of their position within the communities and schools in which they serve. Their team of 600+ coaching professionals are often considered role models to children; their actions and manner on and off the pitch can have a lasting influence. Additionally, evidence suggests there are huge benefits of individuals increasing their physical activity levels and these benefits have an impact on the health and wellbeing of society itself.
In essence the #morethansport campaign is not just about what happens on the pitch, but just as much about what happens off the pitch.
“Upon joining the organisation, 12months ago, I was struck by the impact and breadth of work being undertaken across the country which went beyond just sports coaching. It soon became evident that there were social, behavioural and community impacts happening as a direct consequence of work being carried out by Premier Sport coaches.
In addition I found examples of coaches going beyond their role as sports professionals, for example taking on roles as school governors and community champions.” comments Rebecca Rose, Head of Corporate Responsibility
A great example of this community work emerged following the launch of the campaign. Premier Sport coaches Luke Banner and Holly Harrison have been giving up their time each week to assist pupils attending the lunchtime Gardening Club at a local school.
Mr Mann, Mrs Wicks and the pupils from the gardening club said: “Luke and Holly have been lending a hand at our lunchtime Gardening Club. They give up their lunchtime every week to assist the pupils with digging, planting and sorting the shed (oh, and rescuing us from spiders!!)”.
“They both have a great manner with the pupils and interact well with them. Not only that, the pupils have thrived with the constant encouragement and they look forward to seeing Luke and Holly each week. We realise this is over and beyond what they are here to do and just wanted to let you know how grateful we are.”
As well as activity happening at a local level, Premier Sport who is part of the Premier Education Group, also take their national responsibilities seriously. In 2012 they with a handful of other providers initiated the formation of the Compass Association. COMPASS aims are to improve standards of delivery within schools, ensure minimum standards are achieved and be the leading authoritative voice of the sport and activity industry to government, local authorities and the public at large.
“Business has a responsibility beyond its accountability to its shareholders; a responsibility to a broader constituency that includes its key stakeholders: customers, employee, NGOs, government - the people of the communities in which it operates. I am proud of the work that Premier Sport has done to date and continue to support our #morethansport agenda. I want to ensure that we use our influence to impact society in a positive way above and beyond the benefits of physical activity”. David Batch CE Premier Education Group
If you would like to keep up to date with our #morethansport campaign, please follow us on Facebook and Twitter to receive our updates directly into your newsfeed.

Premier Performing Arts celebrates World Book Day!
Premier Performing Arts celebrated World Book Day last Thursday with Cliddedsen Primary School in North Hampshire.
World Book Day sees young children across the world engage with books in 'a big, happy, booky celebration of reading!' Although reading is an essential part of education, sitting down with a book isn't the only way you can explore story telling as Cliddedsen's dance class found out!
Leading the celebration day was Premier Performing Arts Dance Director, Faye Cottrell. As a youngster Faye struggled to engage with reading work and would worry about reading slower than class mates rather than allowing her imagination to explore the wonders of a story.
The workshop was designed to encourage story-telling and sharing. Exploring the movement and activities of their favourite book characters allowed them to be able to improvise and travel the dance space as if they were in that character's shoes. The children were keen to bring famous fairytale stories to life through dance such as 'Little Red Riding Hood' The workshop also captured the children pouncing like 'The Cat in the Hat,' hiding like 'Where's Wally' and exploring the jungle as 'Elmo.'
Speaking about the day, Faye Cottrell said:
“The highlight of the book-worm dance workshop was the musical theatre routine. In just 30 minutes the children learnt the routine of 'Revolting Children' from Matilda: The Musical, based upon the Roald Dahl story book Matilda.
"Choreographed to be an upbeat fun piece of dance, the children practised their facial expressions whilst dancing, allowing them to tell a story of school through dance.
"All dancers received a certificate and performed the routine one last time at the end of day to the on looking pa rents. Following the success of the routine, we now plan to showcase the performance to the whole school demonstrating the pupil’s talent, efforts and achievements to their peers.
“This is a great example of Premier Performing Arts setting the stage for children to thrive with confidence, creativity and fun!”
Premier Education Group goes ‘greener’ with University Environment team
Premier Education Group has been working with the Centre for the Build Environment Team at the University of East Anglia (UEA) to identify ways to reduce our Carbon Footprint. The environmental team at the UEA draws upon a cluster of expertise to provide business support to small and medium sized enterprises in the East of England.
We recognise the need to review, manage and minimise any adverse effect we may have on the environment that’s why we’ve recently reviewed our own environmental policy. All of our employees have committed to this policy which sets out various initiatives to help us go even ‘greener’.
We wanted to take this one step further which is why we’ve teamed up with the UEA for advice on how we could be more energy efficient within our operation. The environmental team at the UEA has provided us with the support and recommendations on how we can improve the energy efficiency at our Head Office in Norfolk. We are currently considering various carbon reduction options from improved insulation, biomass boilers to low energy lighting and heating controls.
If you would like to find out more about how you can reduce your carbon footprint take a look at this great website for lots of hints and tips – http://www.energysavingtrust.org.uk/

Primary school pupil inspired to teach the next generation
As a 5 year old primary school pupil attending Samuel Lucas School in Hertfordshire, Jack Stanton always showed a great enthusiasm for all the activity that Premier Sport delivered at the school.
His true passion was Football and he would attend the afterschool football club each week gaining great inspiration from his coach at the time, Karl Fox. So much so, Jack (18) has now begun an apprenticeship scheme with Premier Sport so that he can become a similar role model – and it sees him return to this old school every week in an assistant instructor role as he begins that journey.
Through our apprenticeship scheme we have successfully trained 20 young people in 2013 to become fully qualified sport coaches, not only that, all have been offered full time employment with the company after the apprenticeship.
Our apprenticeship scheme currently has 34 young people working towards an NVQ Level 2 or Level 3 in Activity Leadership as well as gaining valuable hands on work experience with Premier Sport.
Speaking about his apprenticeship, Jack said:
“I love sport so when I was given the chance to join the apprenticeship scheme I didn’t think twice. I now have a chance for a career in sports coaching which is a dream come true.
I chose the Premier Sport apprenticeship scheme because I wanted to teach and inspire children as well as offering them opportunities in the same way Premier Sport did for me. It’s been strange returning to the school I attended as a pupil but great knowing I can be a role model to the pupils.”
We hope that many more of the 175,000 children we work with EVERY WEEK can be inspired in the same way Jack has been, because we recognise that young people have so much to offer to the working world.
And the journey doesn’t just stop at employment! - One of our current franchised business owners, Ben Eshelby, has been working in schools across Leicestershire for the past 2 years. Ben is an example of how this scheme changed the life of a young unemployed person.
Ben was offered a role as a coach as part of our apprentice scheme. After nearly a year in the job, he was deemed so outstanding he was offered the opportunity to set up his own business under Premier Sport’s protective wing.
Ben launched his business and is now offering coaching both in and out of school hours as well as holiday camps, lunch and after school clubs with a team of coaches in up to 21 different sports under the Premier Sport umbrella. Ben is now an EMPLOYER himself, recruiting apprentices to start the circle again and bring more activity to more children across the country.
If you have a passion for sport and would like to find more about our apprenticeship scheme across the UK please email email@example.com
Continual Assessment of our staff

We've carried out over 500 assessments this school year - providing valuable feedback to staff, recognising good practice and implementing work plans on areas to improve.
Assessments of staff working in your school are available for you to view on your free online portal and provide more evidence that you are providing excellent leadership by measuring the quality of teaching both in and out of school hours.
For schools piece of mind, we adhere to Sports Coach UK's Minimum Standards for Active Coaches (formerly Minimum Standards for Deployment) which expand on these.
Teachers can be confident that all Premier Sport staff working in schools have the correct, relevant certification and qualifications.
Premier Sport – case studies
Matt Ewer is the latest cohort Premier Sport would like to introduce. Matt lives in Rugby with his wife Louise and has launched his franchises in the Rugby and Nuneaton regions.
After achieving a BA Hons in Philosophy at Nottingham University Matt embarked on a career in Business Development within the demanding recruitment arena. After a successful period in London Matt had the opportunity to move back closer to home to work as an Acquisitions Manager for a commercial property company. Matt's entrepreneurial spirit comes from his father who has grown and runs his own successful business.
Matt's desire to join Premier Sport and his determination to make it succeed was demonstrated in the Summer when in addition to undergoing his due diligence into Premier Sport there was just a small matter of getting married and finishing renovating his home in time for the big day.
Matt has big plans for his franchise, he was not satisfied with just one franchise being Rugby, Matt has invested into a second, neighbouring territory - Nuneaton. Matt is clear with offering a complete activity proposition when presenting to head teachers. This is why Matt has also invested in The Golden Mile and Premier Performing Arts through the business builder franchise package.
Cricket is Matt's main love. He is captain of his town Cricket club. Matt has also volunteered a great deal of time with the cricket club, securing numerous grants enabling a development of the club house and build new training facilities. Matt intends to use his contacts with sports providers, council and other cricket clubs to promote Premier Sport.
We look forward to working with Matt as he builds his business and by doing so, achieves his target being the leading activity provider in the region with Premier Sport.
Andrew Overhill lives in Somerset in a small village near Taunton. He is married to Michelle and has a son Jack who is 18 years old.
Andrew who operates in the Taunton territory is attracted to Premier Sport as it meets his criteria for a new business opportunity. He is a family man, who sought a proposition that he could believe in and has a strong ethical element. There is no doubting Andrew's entrepreneurial drive as he has enjoyed a successful career in the hospitality industry over the last 20 years. Andrew was instrumental in the growth and sale of a small hotel and then a large coastal pub. Andrew's practical experience of dealing with a wide range of people will be invaluable. The operational side of the business including the financials will enable him to embrace the Premier Sport opportunity. Andrew believes in leadership by example therefore he has just completed his induction course which included three weeks of practical activity modules and qualifications.
Armed with this knowledge Andrew is looking forward to building a coaching team around him allowing him to focus on building the business by engaging with Head Teachers in his area. It is worth adding that Andrew was so committed to launching his Premier Sport franchise that he attended the induction course knowing that the first day of the course coincided with his silver wedding anniversary!
Andrew's passion is Rugby where he used to play competitively along with cricket.
We have no doubt Andrew will be a success in Somerset the main challenge will be actually getting to the schools given the current flood levels! Welcome onboard Andrew and we wish you every success.

Premier no.1 choice for countless teachers changing career path...
Peter Bulteel is the latest in a long line of primary and secondary school teachers to join the Premier family over the past few years.
Peter enjoyed a successful career in the private and state education sector as a PE teacher. For the last 15 year he’s taught at the independent boarding school Leighton Park School in Reading. His last role was Head of Boy’s Games and taught year 7 to year 13. Prior to this role, Peter worked in a number of secondary school across Kent.
His teaching career followed graduation from University College of St Mark & St John Plymouth with a BA (Hons) in Recreation and Community Studies with physical recreation programmes, plus a PGCE in secondary Physical Education.
A change in personal circumstances at the start of this year provided Peter with the perfect opportunity to take stock, reflect and positively seek a new direction for his career. It was through a specialised recruitment company that Peter was first introduced to Premier Education Group and the business opportunities that exist. The thought of running his own business appealed to Peter, even more so that it was within in the education sector using his knowledge and passion to maximum effect.
At the Discovery Day in February, Peter got to understand the benefits of owning a franchise and how the Premier business model stands out and helps win business. The thought of compiling a business was daunting to Peter as he had no experience of this process. With the support of Premier, plus an appointed external business plan writing company as part of the recruitment process, he got to grips with the principles and the plan. The result being that the business plan provided the road map for the next two years and helped Peter visualise the transition from employed status to successfully running his own business.
Peter commented on his decision to invest in a Premier Sport franchise:
Peter still has time outside working hours to play rugby on a regular basis and can often be found on the golf course. His long term aim is spend even more time playing golf once his business is up and running!
Peter has recently moved to Faversham, Kent, which is within striking distance of his Dover franchise territory. Peter is well aware that he will benefit from the established Premier franchisees in the surrounding area and is looking forward to working with his fellow franchisees to continue the success already achieved across the county.
Premier Education Group is delighted to welcome Peter who brings a wealth of PE and teaching experience to the business and will enable him to get off to a flying start towards building a long lasting legacy in Kent.
Former Commando set to illuminate Blackpool’s next generation...
Premier Sport is delighted to welcome Gareth Owen who launches his Blackpool territory this month. The former Royal Marine Commando joins six new starters to Premier Education Group following completion of Premier’s rigorous induction process.
Gareth lives in Southport with his wife Kay their two teenage daughters. It is all change this month in the Owen household, as one daughter begins her degree course at Sheffield University and Gareth embarks on a new career with Premier.
Prior to Gareth’s 20 plus year career in senior sales management roles, Gareth was a Commando with the Royal Marines seeing military action across the world. Gareth is modest when describing his time as a Commando, he does acknowledge though that the extreme experiences combined with the team ethos, discipline and drive required, helped him build a successful career.
His experience operating in a variety of sales and account management roles included, FMCG, Sport retail and high end Hifi sectors.
Gareth was seeking a new business which offered him the opportunity to combine his key passions which are, giving children the opportunity to be active, to build a business based on ethical values and to use his vast experience in relationship building and sales to maximum effect.
Gareth undertook a detailed research into franchising which included online searches and attending the British Franchise Exhibition where he was introduced to the British Franchise Association (bfa). It soon became clear to Gareth that Premier Sport were the only physical activity based and sports coaching franchise to consider.
After attending a Discovery Day in June and subsequently meeting local franchisees, Gareth was enthused and confidently completed his business plan with the support of the Premier team. His due diligence provided the information he needed to decide that his business would deliver the greatest impact in Blackpool.
We wish Gareth every success inspiring the next generation.
Welcome to Premier Family.
All roads lead to Premier Sport for former Police Offer...
Premier Education Group is excited to welcome former Police Officer, Simon Gibbons to the Premier Sport network.
Along with five other new franchisees, he’s just completed the rigorous induction process at PEG Training Academy and will now launch his franchise in Grimsby, North Lincolnshire.
Simon is a Business Management graduate and for the last 12 years he’s been a Police Officer for the Humberside Constabulary. The geographic area which Simon has been operating within is one of the busiest and most challenging in the UK in terms of crime rates and social economic issues. Simon has witnessed firsthand the negative effect on children’s wellbeing by not having the opportunities to experience regular activity and structured play.
Following Simon’s decision to choose Premier, he commented:
“My experiences in the Police force have been very rewarding, and when combined with my passion for sport, and ambition to run my own successful business, the opportunities offered by taking on a Premier Sport franchise is a perfect fit. I welcome the new challenges that this opportunity will offer especially in terms of trying to make a positive impact on many lives at an early stage of their development”.
It is a sign of Simon’s passion to help develop young people through education that he volunteered one day a week at a local school, assisting in the delivery of mathematics to 11-16 year olds. All this was achieved whilst undertaking his challenging role in the Police force.
Simon came along to a Premier Education Group Discovery Day in February 2015 and due to his demanding work shifts, the recruitment process and completion of the business planning stage needed to fit in with Simon’s available time. Simon had additional support with the completion of his business plan as his wife Kerrie is a qualified Accountant.
Simon regularly plays cricket for a local team and is an avid sports fan and loves nothing better than watching Rugby or Cricket, in fact any sport on TV! He is not a bad chef as well. Phil Gaffer our Business Development Director can confirm that when he visited Simon’s home, before their meeting Simon served up a local favourite home cooked fish & chips!
We wish Simon every success and welcome to Premier Education Group.
Premier perfect for rugby-mad Physical Education graduate...
If ever there were a business partnership which perfectly fitted both parties, this is it....
Dan Gyles graduated this summer from St Mark & St John University Plymouth with a BA (Hons) Degree in Coaching and Physical Education. Whilst at Plymouth Dan balanced his studies with developing his coaching and leadership skills. The love of Rugby runs through Dan’s veins and this is easily demonstrated by Dan undertaking a long list of roles and activities including being Club captain of the University rugby team which gained promotion in his final season. Dan even had time to coach the University women’s rugby club, to put his Rugby level 2 coaching qualification to good use. His time at Plymouth was capped off by being awarded the prestigious accolade of Sport Development and coaching student of the year.
Oh, and did we mention he’ll be operating his territory in Twickenham, the home of English rugby.
When asked what his proudest achievement is, Dan responds without delay and with a smile on his face; “I played an instrumental part in planning and setting up of a junior community rugby club with the aid of a lottery grant of £10,000.” It was through this community rugby programme that Dan was introduced to coaching in schools as part of their curriculum and after school physical activities.
As you can see Dan has a passion for Rugby and inspiring children through playing the game. He also has an entrepreneurial mindset, which no doubt comes from his father who runs a successful franchise business of his own. Dan’s overall passion and drive to run his own sports coaching business was confirmed after undertaking a series of job interviews where he came to the conclusion, he wanted to be in control of his career and could see a far brighter future being his own boss.
Dan first made contact with Premier in early spring this year to have an initial conversation and enquire about attending a Discovery Day. We’re now delighted to announce that Dan successfully completed the recruitment process this summer, impressing everyone at each stage.
To underline that this is a perfect match, Dan is launching his Premier business this September in the Twickenham territory where coincidently the home of English rugby is located.
Welcome to the Premier team Dan and we can’t wait to see you achieve success.
