MACC UK Limited
MACC help boosting innovation in the building trade.
MACC is a French family owned business, with a turnover of 40 million Pounds and 200 employees in Europe.
For more than 50 years, our company has developed the concept around innovation and direct sale which have made our business today a success.
MACC are not new to the UK market having successfully operated two company vehicles in the East Midlands and South East for 10 years. They have decided the time is now right to launch their franchise model in the UK.
MACC unique products can be seen on most European building sites.
We are known as a company with strong values, selling innovative products, robust and useful because they have been designed and manufactured with the craftsmen themselves in mind.
The idea for any new product comes directly from the specific needs of our customers, throughout marketing studies carried out on sites.
The products created by our Research and Development department are patented and manufactured in France following the precise requirements. They are always checked in order to produce the best quality and value for our customers.
Our branded products are sold only by our sales representatives (more than a 100 in Europe), with a van specially fitted out for demonstration purposes. They visit once a year tradesmen of the building trade using the MACC system to manage and update their customers database and provide them with the best advice, products and services.
The market for MACC products is predominantly the building sector, which has proven solid and reliable over the years with 1,000, 000 potential customers in Europe and 190, 000 in the UK only.
The product range we can offer to our customers (builders, electricians, roofers, joiners…) is extensive and the quality is second to none.
MACC has an enviable track record in its marketplace and will continue to invest in product development and research in order to always meet and exceed the latest tradesmen’s requirements: every year new products are added to the range.
All the means to be successful
Having the possibility to sell unique products clearly helps building your business but it is not the only asset offered by our company.
MACC sales people benefit from excellent induction training at the Head Office in France to start with, and they are led to success by a one to one support in the field later on.
Our on-board computer and software system IRIS allows managing the appointments, the sales, the after sales service, and help monitoring how you and the business perform.
The database is refreshed monthly.
The invoicing process is done automatically and access to a web portal is provided in order for the franchisees to track the information they need. That way you can concentrate on your job: selling and making money.
Franchisees will benefit from the MACC operating system, a wide range of innovative products, initial training, ongoing support, and above all, will be part of a modern company with a bright future.
No previous experience in sales or building sector is necessary; MACC people come from all walks of life.
We teach you everything you need to be successful.
In return we will ask you to give your undivided attention to the business and be totally committed to delivering the very highest standards of service to every MACC customer.

“I wanted to be the key to
the success of MACC in my area”
Neil Saunders, West Sussex
Name: Neil Saunders
Location: Chichester, West Sussex
Tell us a bit about yourself and what you were doing prior to buying a franchise business?
I worked as an Area Manager with BP Oil UK Ltd and managed an estate of retail forecourts with both direct employed managers and more latterly franchisees. The role involved me ensuring that sales targets were achieved whilst working within operating guidelines to ensure both a uniformed offer and to ensure that full compliance was met for both HSSE and legislation requirements. Having worked in a number of positions within the organisation for around 20 years, the opportunity arose for me to take redundancy and begin a new challenge.
Why did you go down the franchise route? And why did you choose your franchise?
After working in a corporate environment for so long, I wanted the opportunity to work for myself but within a model that offered quality whilst maintaining a lower key management structure.
I wanted to be the key to the success of MACC in my area and to make the decisions accordingly.
I chose MACC because I truly believed that the products they manufactured were of a very high quality and the way in which they explained the business model to me. The invitation to the factory in France to meet the senior management team displayed to me that the company genuinely wanted, and needed, me to succeed and was as important to them as it was to me. I was treated very well and was given the opportunity to meet the entire office staff and was welcomed as a valuable member of the MACC team.
How did you raise the finance?
I made them decision to raise half the finance through savings and the funds required for the van through a bank loan.
What training and support did you receive initially and ongoing?
Before I even went to France to meet the office team, I took a day out with one of the direct employed MACC salesmen who talked to me about the position and who allowed me to have open and honest conversations with the customers.
Once I had bought the franchise, I spent a week in France with the Franchise Manager on a very structured training package where I went through a thorough introduction to the equipment MACC manufactured along with time spent with each supporting department to the sales operation. The office structure was geared to ensure that the MACC franchisee was given whatever they needed to allow them to focus on selling.
Following the week in France, I had a further 2 weeks in my own area with the Franchise Manager who worked alongside of me to demonstrate the MACC approach to operating and to build my own confidence in being able to operate on my own whilst making sales!. The 3rd week I spent on my own selling to my customers with regular contact with the Franchise Manager who then joined me again in my area the week after that. I then spent a further week on my own before another week with the Franchise Manager. Outside of the regular visits with the Franchise Manager, the other MACC agents would also keep in touch who were fantastic in offering assistance as and when I needed it.
What is a typical day for you as a franchisee?
A typical day for a franchisee would start the day before with preparing a plan of the customers and potential customers in the postcodes you are going to operate in. This would require telephone calls to arrange appointments along with a very clear understanding of the route you would be taking to maximise your time spent with customers whilst keeping your travel costs down. In some cases, you may be able to plan what products you may want to demonstrate to existing customers. By preparing ahead, it leaves you able to consider what you may want to demonstrate to the customer and perhaps any products you are looking to focus on for that period. Ultimately, it’s your business so you can plan what and how you do things but that’s the whole point of a franchise……it’s a model that already works so your investment is safer than starting a business from scratch.
What challenges have you faced?
With all sales roles, you can face a day or days when you only get a “No”. Every customer is a new opportunity so you must meet that new customer as if it’s the first one of the day and be positive. You are on a steep learning curve so you may make mistakes. That’s OK as everyone does, but as long as you take learnings from it and review what you did and what you “could have done” then you have been successful. Other colleagues are also around to help, so just call them.
Don’t beat yourself up over a lost sale or because someone does not want to meet you. Next time you cover the area, they probably will, it’s not personal.
Has becoming a franchisee changed your life, if so how?
I wanted to be entirely responsible for what I did and when I did it so in that respect having a franchise has delivered that. I find that I put more energy into the hours I spend at work and am more critical about the time I spend being non-productive. I think about what I would do next time and look for new ways of finding customers. I’m happier knowing that I have more control over what I’m doing and when I do it.
What is the most invaluable piece of advice you could give someone looking to buy their first franchise?
Do your homework and ensure you really know your business plan and what is required to meet the plan. Is it realistic and achievable? Try to get to the nitty gritty of the average day and ensure that is something you can do. Remember that the early days of a business are the hardest and that everyone goes through that, not just you.
What are your plans for the future?
To continue to operate by business and grow it as much as I can and not to try to run before I can walk. I’m very much in my early days of the business so I’m working hard.
Would you do it again?
Franchisor name: François KOLZ (MACC Franchise Manager)
Name of Franchise: MACC UK Ltd
Tell us about how/when the business was started and the motivation behind establishing the company
MACC started 55 years ago with a very innovative ladder called “univerchelle”, the idea of one of the company owners. That first product won awards in BRUSSELS and NEW YORK (Gold Cup of the PATENT OFFICE and the POPULAR MECHANICS attributed by the American Patent Office) and showed us the direction to success.
When and why did you decide to go down the franchise route?
We have tried for several years with employees because it seemed the right thing to do in the beginning, but we came to the conclusion that we needed people with more commitment and the entrepreneur spirit if we wanted to be successful in England.
Franchise was the logical route, all the more that our salespeople in the other European countries work on commission only and have far better results. This proves the point.
What have been the company’s biggest achievements/successes to date so far?
We have contributed a lot to the safety and comfort of the people working in the building industry. Our yellow and green innovative products, symbolized by the “MACC man”, are very well recognised and appreciated. Professionals trust and value the brand because MACC offer “solutions” to building site issues and provide them with bespoke products.
What challenges have you had to overcome?
Each country is different. We always have to adapt to the culture and to the working methods on building sites. Thanks to our Marketing and Research Department, our products are always adapted to the market. We strive to satisfy our customers by creating the best possible products that will improve their working conditions.
What marketing/promotional tools do you use to grow your franchise?
We provide an on-site service. Our customers are always happy to see us again year after year. We check if all their products are in good shape and provide them with some spare parts when necessary. Word of mouth is our best marketing tool.
What differentiates MACC UK Ltd from the competition?
The answer is easy: everything! Actually we have no competition because all our products are very innovative and covered by a patent and/or registered design.
We have a "unique" concept in the building trade in Europe: A large range of innovative products designed and manufactured in France, displayed in a van for demonstration purposes to be sold directly on building sites.
In your opinion, what makes a successful MACC franchisee?
People skills, commitment, humility, capacity and willingness to learn
What changes have you seen in your industry over recent year? And how have you adapted to them?
Our customers, tradesmen of the building trade have always higher expectations because they need to adapt to their moving work environment. The MACC concept is very well adapted to that change. We follow the trend and we are very innovative. We are always several products ahead.
What does the future hold for MACC UK Ltd?
So far a proud past so let’s say a bright future!
What expansion plans have you got nationally and internationally?
Having developed a successful sales network in France, MACC pursued their expansion in Italy, Spain and Belgium which met the same success. We want to go step by step and concentrate on each franchisee we take on board. If we manage to cover the 22 areas available in UK within 5 years, we will be more than happy.
What advice would you give to someone considering franchising their business?
Do not expect to find the right candidates straight away. It takes time
If you had to do it all again, what would you do differently:
Actually, we would start the same way. You cannot pretend to be perfect in the first place. It is important to learn from your mistakes and go forward.
If you look at the overall picture, MACC have a very enviable track record in the construction industry. We can be very proud of what we have achieved so far.
A well-known brand in the building trade for 55 years, exhibit at BATIMAT since 1985, where we will once again promote our wide range of innovative products at the next show that will take place in Paris from November 2nd to the 6th; at the Villepinte exhibition center.

MACC – A helping hand in community life
We are all very much aware of the importance of non-profit organizations and volunteer work which help communities and people grow together.
Within this framework, it is important for MACC to share their strong values outside of the company and have others benefit from their constant development and growth.
This is why, in 2004, MACC decided to establish a commission in order to further assist & support their employees’ organizations & volunteer work. This commission grants an annual donation to help fund projects on the organizations’ wishlist.
A wide range of organizations are represented via this program: educational, scientific, social, humanitarian, family-oriented, cultural to only mention a few.
Employees who engage in volunteer work as members of organizations share their organizations’ projects by filing a request which is then carefully considered by a designated committee in charge of deciding which organization will be granted a donation after having defined that the request meets specific criteria.
Every year in December, a special event is hosted during which the cheque is handed over to the members representing the chosen organization. This gesture is acted in front of MACC headquarters employees, Management and the Press so as to share the importance of engaging in volunteer work, and making a difference. Both the volunteer’s & the organization’s intentions & efforts are rewarded.
This concept is recognized a regional & even national success story which has helped over 15 organizations in funding a project entirely or in part.
Last year, a donation was made to an organization called “Avec Arthur” which was established by the father (a MACC customer) of a child, Arthur, who was diagnosed with an orphan genetic disease called Alpha sarcoglycanopathy. The donation helped fund the installation of a lift they needed to give children in wheelchairs access to their dedicated space at their headquarters.
MIRA Europe - This foundation was established to train guide dogs for blind children in Europe. In 2013, the donation contributed to purchasing and training a guide dog.
The oncology department of the Longjumeau hospital in France seeks to improve the conditions of the environment patients are treated in when receiving chemotherapy. In 2012, they received a donation which enabled them to purchase CD & DVD players with headsets in order to offer their patients the possibility to listen to music or watch movies while receiving treatment.
This year again, MACC will play a role in another organization’s wish to get closer to making dreams come true.
A warm welcome to Chris Czora, MACC Shropshire Ltd Franchise
MACC are very pleased to welcome Chris Czora on board our growing Franchise network in England.
We met Chris at The National Franchise Exhibition in Birmingham in October of last year who was intrigued by MACC’s unique concept and found himself to be more enthusiastic about this franchise opportunity than any other.
After a first contact on the stand, Chris spent a day in the field with one of our franchisees. We then met for a more in-depth discussion about going into a partnership providing him with a business plan and support to start his business.
We trust Chris will build solid customer relationships and will be successful in being an ambassador of our brand.
Don't miss out on this fantastic opportunity – Be the next MACC Franchise success story
Call us today to book a day in the field and see for yourself the great potential of our brand and concept !
Patrice VIJEAN - Sales representative, Orleans area, France
“I joined MACC France in 2003. My neighbour was the representative of the area at that time and he was retiring. He told me about this great opportunity.
I was selling rendering products to the trade and was not looking for a new career but he talked me through and I applied for the job.
Immediately, I was impressed by the professionalism of the company. I was used to product training with my former company, but the MACC training program was even more substantial. You have to learn the MACC method.
It started with a thorough basic training at the Head Office and it carried on in the field.
You really feel you belong to a professional company, the support is very good, and everybody moves in the same direction.
After a while, you really manage to build a relationship based on trust with your customers. They are happy to see you every year because they like the products and service you provide them with.
It is not an easy job, but you get the rewards, very good revenue, nice work environment and very pleasant and friendly customers.
What I really like with MACC is the tried and tested method, the professionalism, the human and family aspect: they are always there for you.
“A great company and a great job but it is essential to follow the method if you want to be successful. Do not try to reinvent the wheel, it works very well.”
Salvatore DONNICI - sales agent, Mantova area, Italy
“I started working for MACC Italy only a year ago. I have always been involved in sales. I used to work in the family business; my parents owned a DIY shop.
I found MACC on the internet when I decided to run my own business. I immediately liked the concept of direct selling: to demonstrate the products in order for the tradesmen to understand the features and benefits.
I will always remember the basic training at the Head Office; it was intense but very thorough. The following weeks in the field where they show you how it works in real life was even better. You really feel they are there to help you.
I am very pleased with the support I get from the Head Office; it is like belonging to a big family. Whatever you need, they are just a call away.
Tradesmen are nice people to work with. I like meeting them at their premises or on their building site. They are happy to see you and always show interest in the new products which come out every year.
I really like working on my own. I organise my day the way I want. It is never the same. There is no routine in this job.
MACC products are appreciated and recognised for their quality and longevity.
One thing to remember for the new comers: “take your time to get the best out of your area.”
Satie PONIN BALLOM - Sales representative, Brabant Wallon, Belgium
“I am originally from the French Réunion Island. I have always been involved in sales. Actually I am a qualified secretary.
I started selling lights when I was working with an architect. Later on, I sold cars and started my own business to sell jewellery and Tupperware products.
I was customer advisor in a garage before joining MACC 8 years ago. I knew somebody who was working for the company and I simply applied for a job.
The training was very professional and intense. You get all the tools you need to work.
The support given by the company is second to none. That is why I have stayed with MACC for so long. I have found what I was looking for.
I like my customers. It was not easy in the beginning because I am a woman but they have learnt to trust me over the years.
What I really like with this job is that you get out what you put in: the more you work, the more you earn. As well, I can organise myself the way I want, and this is essential for a good work and life balance.
It is difficult to say what I like best with MACC:” it is a very professional company to work for”
Minimum Investment: £20,000
