The reality of it

You will not need previous experience of franchising or the building trade. In fact, not having this experience can work in your favour as you will learn our business blueprint without being influenced by other, less successful formulas.
Our recruitment process is rigorous. When you purchase a franchise you have the opportunity to operate a proven business model. Much expertise and support is available with the head office teams as you progress through our recruitment process. You as an individual just have to make the first step and book on to a discovery seminar.
Our unique discovery seminars are the perfect opportunity to gain an introduction to the Aspray franchise proposition.
The discovery seminar is designed to not only enable you to create a greater understanding of the Aspray franchise business proposition but, just as importantly, it also allows Aspray to begin to assess your suitability as an Aspray franchisee.
The seminar will conclude with you having the opportunity to partake in a one-to-one chat with a member of the management team, if selected! If our senior management team are certain that the Aspray franchise is right for you, then you will be guided through the next steps of our recruitment process.
How much does it cost?
Aspray’s one-off franchise fee is £37,500 plus VAT, payable when the franchise agreement is signed. A good target to aspire to for turnover in your 1st year would be around 200k claims value. On target earnings are realistic for franchises with good profit margins, successful franchisees also have the opportunity for expansion to other territories after at least one year's trading.
You can feel reassured that Aspray are authorised by the Financial Conduct Authority, who regulate the financial services industry in the UK. Aspray are also full members of the British Franchise Association. The bfa is the voluntary self-regulating governing body for franchising.

As you may already be aware, the UK insurance industry is the third largest in the world and the largest in Europe. According to ABI’s recent statistics, the bad weather between 23rd December 2013 and 28th February 2014 generated a total of 17,500 flood claims and 421,500 storm claims.

An interview with Aspray’s Franchisee of the Year, Jack Connor
Aspray’s Jack Connor joined the Aspray team in April 2014. Not only did Jack double his target for first year turnover but has received nothing but positive feedback from Aspray customers and introducers.
Why did joining the Aspray franchise opportunity appeal to you?
Because I worked for Aspray (Guildford) as a contractor and could see potential for a bigger business than I was currently running. It looked like a good lifestyle too!
What was your occupation before joining Aspray?
I was a plasterer and decorator for about 10 years prior to joining Aspray.
If you had any advice for a new franchisee about the beginning of their journey with Aspray what would it be?
Make sure you handle quite a few claims to completion before pushing to expand your business. You need good experience with insurers, Loss Adjusters and Contractors to be able to successfully manage multiple claims at any one time. If you are handling a lot of claims for big introducers before you are confident in doing so you could risk looking unprofessional. Don’t run before you can walk!
What’s the best thing about finishing a job for a customer?
Receiving good feedback and testimonials, seeing works completed to a high standard and getting paid! Clearing jobs off your list makes room for new ones.
Which area do/did you need most support from Aspray Head Office with and how has the support from HO benefited your business?
The support is first class. Everybody at HO has a vital role to play and they are all great. General advice on complicated claims or situations you have not come across before are most common. If Hayley or Lucy cannot help (which is rare) then Julie Parker is always on hand to guide you through difficult claims.
What do you enjoy most about being an Aspray franchisee?
Becoming a professional as opposed to a tradesman. I love wearing a suit to work and also having a business that suits my life. I have a young family and this job gives me the time to be around to watch my kids grow up as well as running a successful business. A good work and family balance is extremely important to me.
How would you describe your overall experience as an Aspray franchisee?
Very good. I love my job and the person I am becoming as a result of a change in career. I don’t really have any negatives as yet.
What did winning the Franchisee of the Year award mean to you this year?
It meant a lot. I was really not expecting it at all and although I knew I had a good first year, it’s hard to compare it to that of all the other franchisees to know just how well you are doing. I think the mixture of good feedback, no complaints, difficult claims and a good first year turnover which all contributed to the award.
Aspray franchisee Clive Hawkesley joined the Aspray network in September 2013. Married with three children Clive heads up Aspray Tunbridge Wells along with his wife Nathalie Hawkesley. Together, along with the help of Aspray’s Head Office team, Clive and Nathalie run an extremely successful business.
Clive has applied his skills and experience within the property and building industry into launching his Aspray franchise and since joining the Aspray network Clive and Nathalie have hit the ground running with their business marketing strategy with the help of Aspray’s Head of Sales and Marketing, Andrea Loasby and have identified the importance of ensuring their local community is aware of the Aspray brand and the service they provide.
Moreover, Clive’s business has boomed over recent months due to the bad weather in the South which has resulted in him achieving his first year’s projected turnover in the space of two months. Clive says “I have never shied away from hard work, but the gratitude of the clients we have helped so far has made the long hours worthwhile and the positive feedback has been just as rewarding as the financial return”.
Aspray franchisees project manage property insurance claims from the start of the claim to the completion of works, liaising with the insurance company directly to ensure the customer receives a fair settlement. Additionally, franchisees will also manage vetted tradespeople and suppliers to complete any and all property repair works to the highest standard.
