The Travellers Rest is a traditional style country pub in a fantastic location on the outskirts of Meltham. The pub attracts a wide range of customers.
Trading area and private accommodation
The pub has an open-plan trading area with a single bar that caters to the whole pub. It splits naturally into two, with steps leading down into the restaurant area. The main bar area has a stone flagged floor and carpeting, with fixed seating. Although there is no designated games room/area, a dart board is located in the main bar. The catering kitchen is easily accessible and well-equipped.
The private accommodation consists of a lounge, kitchen, bathroom and two bedrooms.
Local area and customer base
The Travellers Rest lies on the outskirts of the large village of Meltham, an affluent suburb of Huddersfield. The village is situated on the edge of the Peak District National Park and has a wide demographic, therefore a mixture of age groups are attracted to the pub.
The pub invites general trade from the local area, with drinkers calling in after work, and diners later on. Entertainment is provided on weekends to attract a wider audience. Diners, walkers, cyclists and tourist trade also frequent the pub during the summer months.
Per week, the pub is currently taking £2,000 in wet sales on average, and around £500 - £1,000 in dry sales, but has the potential to achieve £5-6,000 per week in total. It has recently been relaunched by the current operator and is starting to win trade back in the area with the local community.
There is real potential to develop the food offer, therefore the new operator needs to have food experience, with the ability to establish an offer quickly. A focus on excellent customer services is a must, and cask ale experience would also be extremely beneficial.
