The Crown is a fantastic traditional 17th Century Inn with thatched roof situated deep in the Winterborne Valley in the beautiful Dorset countryside, 4 miles south of Blandford Forum. As a Ringwood Inn we specialise in real ales and ciders.
Trading area and living accommodation
The Crown offers two separate rooms. The first is the larger of the two rooms which serves mostly as a restaurant and the second room serves mostly as the bar area. The pub also has a fabulous beer garden to the side of the premises and has an ample car park.
The living accommodation is generous and comprises of four bedrooms, a bathroom, lounge, office area and a private kitchen area downstairs.
Local area and customer base
The Crown attracts mostly locals from the village as it is seen as the hub of local the community. Due to its close proximity to Poole it also benefits from day trippers. Winterbourne Strickland remains a living and working village rather than a commuter or retirement settlement. As Stickland is surrounded by hill farms, the main industry in the valley is still agriculture. A characteristic of Stickland is the high level of community spirit and social activity that is enjoyed within the village. There are many local events such as the gardening club, craft guild, annual pantomime, pub quizzes, and more. Many of these activities include villagers from the neighbouring area, and much is made of the 'Valley' community which is served by the Valley News, a free monthly magazine.
The business is well established and currently trading at £4.5K per week with 50% of sales coming from food. The pub has built a good reputation for food with some nights being fully booked, there is however still some opportunity to grow wet sales with the right operator. The successful person will have experience running a food led site and with cask ales. The prospective candidate needs to involve themselves within the local community.
