The Market Cross is a town centre site which is currently operating the Marston’s new Town Centre Personality menu. The pub has a great regular trade and benefits from its lively Friday and Saturday nights.
TRADING AREA AND PRIVATE ACCOMMODATION
The Market Cross has an open plan trading area which is separated into split level areas. There is a large bar space, and the different levels create clearly defined sections for customers. The Market Cross has fixed seat booths and plenty of vertical drinking areas, as well as a function room.
The private accommodation consists of a bathroom, a living room, a kitchen and three bedrooms.
LOCAL AREA AND CUSTOMER BASE
The Market Cross is situated in the town centre of Ormskirk and is surrounded by bars and restaurants and is close to all the amenities you'd expect. The pub is in a great location and benefits from having customers who can easily travel to it by bus or train. It also profits from the footfall the town centre generates.
The site has regular daytime drinkers throughout the week and is very much a locals pub. Naturally it becomes busier at the weekends and although not a late night venue, it has a licence to trade until 1am on a Saturday night. The new operator would need to focus on creating new reasons for people to visit each day and create links with the students at Edge Hill University to further drive sales.
The Market Cross is currently trading at £6,000 per week with a 80/20 wet/dry split. With the right retailer the pub has the potential to achieve sales of £10,000 per week through increasing daytime food sales and consequently wet sales.
This site requires an individual or couple looking for a town centre site. It is important that the successful candidate is capable of driving food sales. This could be led by having high standards, local marketing and a new menu. Ensuring the function room is fully utilised is also important.
