One of only four 'real' vintage diner cars within the UK and one of only 7 known throughout Europe this 1949 Mountain View Diner Car has resided in the UK since around 1992. Own you own piece of genuine US history. This diner car has been subject to a full and comprehensive restoration to bring it back into beautiful condition whilst complying with all UK Legislation, ready to move site and trade as all fixtures and fittings are included within the package.
To our knowledge none of the other three diners in the UK have come to the open market and are unlikely to in the near future so this really is the only opportunity to grab one for yourself.
Diners are relatively portable self contained structures built in the US and normally located outside factories to provide simple, home cooked food and drink to the workers employed within them. They have become iconic buildings in their own right and draw numerous fascinated customers from far and wide curious to experience what they have seen in many films, music videos and photoshoots in lifestyle magazines. Whilst they are portable they cannot simply be hooked up to a towbar and moved like a conventional trailer or mobile building - they dont have any wheels for a start!
To our knowledge there is one remaining diner manufacturer in the US. To have a new diner built to serve the same amount of covers as this one it would cost you £265,000 at todays exchange rate. For this you would have a stainless steel building on the wrong side of the Altantic Ocean, no equipment and non compliant services (wiring, plumbing drainage etc). You then have to get it here, pay Import Duty, VAT and then kit it out. We reckon you will be at around £400,000 by the time you are ready to go and then you will have a very nice shiny new diner, not one with history and provenance. Lets be honest its the history and authenticity that makes this special isn't it?
What do you get with this diner?
What apart from being the envy of everyone?
A lot of love and care has been put into the restoration of this, we have a photographic record and spent around £65,000 excluding labour to bring it back to life.
During our ownership we have:
Partially rewired the diner to bring it up to UK regulations, we think we have replaced or renewed at least 50% of whats in there, we know it was completely rewired in 1995
Renewed the Emergency Lighting throughout
Replaced the external cladding below the windows, at great expense, to the original profile using 314 Stainless Steel
Ripped up and replaced the floor kitchen side and laid a new continuous coved non slip safety floor
Replaced the extract fan and cowl
Fitted brand new air conditioning and heating
Extensively overhauled the existing built in counter fridges and fitted remote compressors
Completely replaced the counters and booths to include new seating
Renovated the whole of the internal finishes
Hand made replacement external lights using sand casts to ensure they were as they were in 1949
Sourced and refurbished 7 Seeburg 3W100 wallboxes so they run off quarter dollars that we sell our customers. We believe we have the only original working set of these in the UK.

Needless to say its amazing, we will let the pictures speak for themselves. We have two films post production that are to be released in 2016 where the diner is central to the story, this has surely got to be a genuinely unique opportunity for someone to take on and enjoy, all the hard work has been done!
We could go on, we love this place sadly personal reasons have meant we have had to put it up for sale.
The boring bit
We want any potential new owner to know what they have purchased, to be happy and love this amazing thing going forwards. This is a sizeable investment and therefore needs careful consideration. Once we have finalised terms with a new owner we will draw up contracts for the sale via solicitors to ensure everything is kept entirely above board. We will cover the reasonable costs of this as part of the sale.
We are willing to advise the purchaser on moving (we have moved it three times now we are becoming somewhat of experts!) but you must be aware that on purchase we will pass all storage charges onto yourselves, you will also need to become responsible for insuring the building between transaction date and moving date. Our landlord is really fantastic and reasonable so we dont see this being an issue, he is using the site for something else though so this has to be moved and cannot be traded where it is.
You are purchasing the diner and its entire contents, but not its trading name or the business entity, We are not charging for goodwill because technically you are moving it from the site where it has traded successfully. We will however provide a full inventory for the new owner but you must ensure that you are aware of what you are taking on, we are offering no warranties or guarantees whatsever on this building.

Please contact us with any queries at all, we would love to talk to you about this amazing opportunity.
