How to buy a Cornwall Caravan Park

There are more than 100 caravan parks in operation in Cornwall, many with stunning views of the surrounding countryside. The caravan visitor numbers in this part of the world are consistently high, due to its convenience relative to other European destinations, its sandy beaches, moors, granite hills and dramatic coastline. The high occupancy of caravan parks in this area can also often be attributed to the quality of the sites themselves – many venues are four- or five-star parks, complete with restaurants, shops and laundry facilities as standard.

Many caravan owners and renters choose Cornwall for a low-key relaxing ‘natural’ holiday, but on the days when tourists want to get out and do things, there are plenty of special and unique attractions such as the Geevor Tin Mine, the Eden Project, Tate St Ives and St Michaels mount within driving distance. Active tourists are attracted to the area by the golf, cycling, surfing and walking on offer in the county, so there truly is something for everyone.

When choosing a park, pay close attention to the audited accounts. How does the business fare in the different months of the year? Will you have sufficient cash flow to see you through the year, or will you need to arrange finance? Always seek professional advice before you commit to a purchase.

Once you have bought the caravan park, it’s worth making yourself known to Cornwall Council, who can help you meet trading standards, explain business rates and assist with other legislative elements of running a Cornish caravan park.
