Buying a newsagent business

 

Running a newsagent business can be a very rewarding enterprise. Depending on the premises, purchase costs for a newsagents business can be relatively low, and the return custom of loyal local customers can ensure that your business continues to earn money from a mature income stream right from the day of purchase, while you start to gradually put your own stamp on your investment.

Newsagents can be run in a multitude of premises; everything from vending stalls, large retail premises or concessions within public buildings such as train stations and bus depots – the choice is yours. 

In every case, you and/or your staff will need to start early in the morning, to receive and display periodicals and newspapers as they arrive. You will also need to pay close attention to what publications are selling in your area, and what publications you might be able to sell more of. For instance, you might not think that you could sell many French newspapers in premises on the outskirts of London, but London has more French people living in it now than Bordeaux or Nantes (Source: BBC). If you are sensitive to the interests of your local customers, you can pick up on things like this and create a strong loyalty with your community, which will pay dividends in the long run.
