Business Description
Unique opportunity to purchase one of the UK's top Speciality Coffee Houses. Rated in the Guardian top10 in 2008 and Sunday Times top 50 in 2018.

Why Coffee Aroma is so Special

It’s all about the people, both the staff and customers. Over the last 15 years, Coffee Aroma has become a very special place in the hearts of hundreds of people from around the globe.

Speciality coffee is an art but it also requires precision and attention to detail across all areas of the business, utilising technology to ensure consistent quality at the very highest level. Coffee Aroma offers a relaxed, bohemian environment for customers, with technology seamlessly integrated to monitor and aid production.

For example:
In Lincoln we have very hard water, it can break a commercial dishwasher in less than two years unless water softeners are maintained correctly. Strangely, unlike domestic dishwashers, commercial dishwashers have no salt monitoring system, thus Coffee Aroma has developed an Arduino based water flow monitoring system which displays the amount of water used by the dishwasher since salt was last replenished. The till will send an email reminder to the manager, ensuring the machine has a longer life, glasses are clean and salt is not wasted.

Our Coffee

We have a fantastic relationship with Hasbean roasters, working together to produce unique espresso blends exclusively for Coffee Aroma created from each season's best coffee beans. Roasted to a medium roast our skilled baristas can extract all the complex oils which make a naturally sweet, balanced espresso.

For a great espresso-based drink the right equipment is vital, a grinder with infinite grind variation and on-demand dosing, scales, tamper and espresso machine. At Coffee Aroma we have very tight tolerances for all stages of coffee production to guarantee every drink we serve is of the high standard we’re known for.

Starting out with medium roast whole beans, every dose of coffee is ground to order, avoiding evaporation of aroma and oils. We tamp (press) using the state of the art PuqPress, removing any variation in barista strength before finally pouring.

Our Victoria Arduino Black Eagle Gravitech has unique technology, enabling us to replicate our espresso recipe every time by cutting off water flow to the group head by weight rather than time as a traditional espresso machine would. Our current recipe, 18g of coffee and a 35g yield is perfectly extracted in 28-30seconds, anything outside this time indicates to the barista that an adjustment to the grind is needed. The Black Eagle also produces a stable pressure and temperature to foam milk quickly and correctly, the wands are purged of water before and after use and wiped clean immediately.

Coffee Aroma’s baristas employ our superbly calibrated equipment to reliably bring out the subtle flavours in our coffee beans, freeing up more time for customer service and presentation while ensuring measurable consistent quality.

Lifestyle destination
For the generation who post their lives on Instagram, lifestyle destinations provide them with the content needed to produce a constant flow of images for their audience. Coffee Aroma is a unique location spread across three floors with an overarching colour scheme, while each area has its own appeal such as the “secrets wall” in the main room and books, which can be exchanged for free, in the snug.

Home from Home
Forty percent of sales are to regular customers and this large, loyal customer base forms a reliable income for Coffee Aroma, while Coffee Aroma provides a home from home for them. Their drinks and preferences are remembered, many returning several times a day starting with coffee in the morning and ending with a beer after work. Whether studying, playing a board game or on a date, Coffee Aroma is a destination that is able to serve a diverse range of needs in a comfortable, unique environment.

Why I purchased it 5 years ago
Coffee Aroma was my mid-morning ‘office’ from the day it opened its doors back in 2005, no other coffee shop came close to their quality, and by 2014 it was time for a new owner to progress the venue from a hobby to a sustainable, secure business. I could see the vast potential and felt it essential to foster the growth of the expanding community and goodwill that had been building here.

Why is Coffee Aroma for sale?
In buying Coffee Aroma my aim was to ensure it had a sustainable future. Feeling this has been achieved, it is now time to pass on the ownership to someone who wants to run a well established, technologically progressive business with an astonishingly loyal following and lots of exciting opportunities. It has been a privilege to own Coffee Aroma and be part of its community, I am sure the future owner will have a fantastic time running one of the best coffee houses in the UK.
