Since the 1754 Marriage Act prevented marriage in England and Wales under the age of 21, young couples were able to elope and be married in Gretna, with around 5,000 couples tying the knot each year. Gretna Green is easily accessed from the A74(M) via the B(7076) from the north and from south via the M6 at junction 45.The village itself has a good selection of local amenities as well as the popular Gretna Outlet Village.
Regarded as the oldest guest house in Gretna Green, Greenlaw was built in 1912 by a local architect as a family home. A few years later it became Greenlaw Hotel and traded as such for many years, before transforming into a fine guest house. Built of a traditional construction with instantly recognisable red brick façade, this detached 2 storey property is set back from the road with ample private parking to the front. Presented well throughout, the addition of the exceptional owner’s accommodation makes for a fine business and family home. Services include, mains electricity, water and drainage with oil fired central heating in the guest house and gas central heating in the owner’s accommodation.
All public areas within the property are accessed via a bright and welcoming entrance vestibule leading into the main hallway giving further access to the upper floor bedrooms.
RESIDENTS LOUNGE: This bright room is ideal for guests to relax and benefits from comfortable seating, wood laminate flooring, original coving features and a bay window formation overlooking the private car park to the front. There is also a doorway leading to the dining room, so when required can act as an overflow for guests.
Pleasing, well presented and bright room, again overlooking the front of the property. Various features include original coving. Laminate flooring throughout and free-standing light wood tables and chairs.

Due to the nature of Gretna’s market the majority of the guests are generally attending a wedding which ensures a steady stream of visitors, however due to the location there is a diversity of business from other channels incl. global visitors, cyclists and walkers travelling from Landsend to John O Groats and bird watchers. Greenlaw Guest House is ideally placed within the village and is walking distance from Gretna Green railway Station, Gretna Outlet Village and Gretna Green Famous Blacksmith Shop, where couples have been getting married since 1754.
