Business Description
An opportunity has arisen to purchase a very well established, Jewellery business situated in the picturesque fishing village of Porthleven, Cornwall. Porthleven is situated three miles from Helston, between the Lizard and Lands End. Ideal addition to existing portfolio or ideal start-up or relocation opportunity.
The business consists of a retail shop and a seperate workshop with bigger equipment for melting down, rolling, tutoring workshops and courses etc. The two units are situated on opposite sides of the beautiful Harbour, a popular destination for locals and visitors alike.
The retail shop, fitted with two workbenches, has a variety of display cabinets, displaying items from our own workshop, local artists and a number of carefully chosen external suppliers.
The services offered in the workshop are, amongst others: weekly, single jewellery making classes; seven week beginner courses; the popular ’Make Each Others’ Wedding Rings for couples and ‘One to One’ classes for more bespoke designs. These classes are run by a local jeweller, on a self-employed basis. We also offer a ‘Rent-a-Bench’ service for experienced jewellers to use the workshop facilities.
Opening times are at present: 10 -5 daily from Easter to Christmas and 10 - 4 Tuesday - Saturday between Christmas and Easter.
The business has an excellent reputation for quality repairs; re-modelling/rejuvenating customers’ jewellery and has built up excellent contacts with local, national and international suppliers and jewellers over the years of trading within the sector.
The business is sold with the extensive amount of stock, consisting of contemporary and traditional jewellery. There is also a large stock of silver and gold findings, workshop tools and supplies, semi-and precious stones and beads, pearls, etc. We are the best seller of ‘Wild Things’ Crystal Ornaments in the South West.
We believe the success of our business is our commitment to excellent customer service, fair prices and honesty, which reflects in loyal returning local and visiting customers. Regarding competition, there is no other specific jeweller in Porthleven and only two, in Helston, our nearest town.
We have annually exceeded the figures of the previous year with a last years’ annual turnover in excess of £300K, a gross profit of £164K, net profit of £64k.
The shop has an increasingly positive presence online, with a popular website and store (which has been recently updated), a Facebook and Instagram page.
There are other areas which could be looked into to keep the turnover rising, like the supply of local hotels with jewellery. We found a lack of locally made jewellery of quality displayed in many hotels in Cornwall and is definetly a market which should be approached.
Porthleven is one of the most popular coastal villages in the county. With it’s original charm, a great community, amazing restaurants (Rick Stein and others), beautiful coastal paths and stunning sea views, it attracts visitors from a very broad demographic, all year round. The village is getting busier every year and is constantly building on its appearance and reputation.
The shop has been running with the owner and two members of staff. The current owner is happy to commit to a transition period to enable the new owner to take on the business as is, in order to pass on any required procedures/knowledge.
