Business Description
Black Dog Pictures and Framing was established 4 years ago by the owner in this picturesque market town in the Vale of Clwyd. It is situated on a very busy junction, just off the town centre, with handy parking very close by.

The business has grown steadily over this period, with plenty of scope for further expansion. It has a good, solid local and regional trade, with customers coming from as far afield as Abergele and the coast, Mold and Deeside, Oswestry, Corwen and Bala. Much of the business is repeat business, and it has a very loyal customer base. Opportunities for increasing the turnover and profit lie in the fact that the current owner has hardly advertised, and relied on passing trade and word of mouth. The business is at the moment only open four and a half days a week, so the potential to open a further day and a half is available. The business would definitely benefit from a comprehensive marketing campaign.

Picture framing has a high profit margin, and, with the framing equipment available, this business can, at present be operated by one person. This equipment includes Wizard 9000 computerised mount cutter, which was purchased 18 months ago and has been invaluable (these cost £18k new!). The swiftness of operation and the massive variety of designs, has been a boost to the business. Other equipment includes a Morso mitre, Cassese underpinner, and Keencut Ultimat Gold manual mount cutter.

Whilst much of the day to day business is general picture framing, the framing of sports shirts has proved very popular, so much so, Black Dog has sponsored boards at the local Rugby and Football clubs. The owner has also framed a number of classic vinyl rock albums and posters, which sell well.
The shop only makes a relatively small proportion of the turnover, it definitely has potential for a vast increase in sales.

The premises are a wonderful example of old Ruthin. The original part of the building dates back to c1450 - this is currently the retail area. There are two further rooms to the side, which are the work areas. There is a small yard, in which can be found the 'Ty Bach', or outside toilet. There are two upstairs rooms which are used for storage. The premises, if sold freehold, will come with planning permission for a two storey extension, which will increase the footprint considerably. This is a further investment opportunity, as the extended upstairs could either be offices or, with change of use, a flat.

The owner is selling due to family commitments, but will be only too happy to help wherever possible and required with the transition, and with support and training.
