Business Description
Business
Hilton Smythe is welcoming to the market, Owd Betts pub situated on Edenfield Road, Norden, Rochdale.

Owd Betts was built in 1796 by Richard and Mary Ashworth. The building was passed to their son John and his wife Betty in the mid 1800's. During this time it became an inn and was called 'The Hare and Hounds'. After John passed away in 1869 Betty continued to run the inn alone. It was during this time it became known as 'Owd Betts' In 1893.

Betty passed away at the age of 93. It was not until the 1950's that the pubs name was officially changed to 'Owd Betts' as a fitting testimony to the grand old lady. It is believed that Betty may still keep an eye on her pub today as many staff members have reported strange happenings and regularly hearing footsteps!

Owd Betts often has film crews visiting and have hosted ghost hunt events in the past.

Our client has successfully run the business 2006 and is now looking to relocate closer to his home in wales. The owner is offering a hand over period to ensure the continued success.

The premises is well presented, creating a cozy and inviting atmosphere with an open fire in the colder months. To the side is the attractive beer garden area with seating for the warmer months. The clientele is mainly families, business meetings and walkers through the summer months.

The pub doubles up as a restaurant and offers traditional meals, sandwiches, soups, jacket potatoes, homemade cakes and also has a gluten free menu. Sales split 70% dry and 30% wet.

Owd Betts has built up an inevitable reputation and boasts a 4 star rating on TripAdvisor with excellent reviews.

There is potential and scope to improve income, by utilizing the upstairs as a large 3 bed flat (currently used as storage) this could be living accommodation, or letting rooms.

This is a great opportunity for anybody looking to get into the trade and would be suitable for all types of people, including a family. This pub already has a fantastic reputation and the foundations to build upon.

Other options to boost trade would be to, utilise social media, advertising and extending opening hours would benefit the healthy turnover the business already has.

Early viewing of this popular pub/restaurant is highly recommended with the business genuinely coming to the market as our client looks towards a career change.
