Blackawton is a working parish with a vibrant community spirit, situated in the heart of Devon’s beautiful South Hams. The historic Parish Church of St Michael is opposite the pub and the villages principle landmark. Blackawton also has a primary school with an excellent reputation, a large and well used village hall and post offices/general store.
The village lies roughly halfway between Totnes and Kingsbridge (9 miles) and about 5 miles from Dartmouth. Dartmouth is a beautiful estuary town with an excellent range of shopping and marina facilities, laying at the mouth of the spectacular River Dart, famous as a sailing centre and home to Britannia Royal Naval College. The village is also close to some stunning South Hams beaches and Dartmoor National Park.
The George Inn is a traditional freehouse, which has been significantly renovated over recent years with a contemporary feel. The addition of five en-suite letting rooms really enhances the business; all of which are presented to a very high standard. On ground floor level are two trading areas again, well presented, with tasteful interior design. Back of house space includes a fully equipped commercial kitchen, outside is a newly refurbished trading terrace, an outside ‘bar’ used as overspill/functions and a beer garden, which benefits from uninterrupted views over the rolling Devon countryside. There is also a car park behind the pub.
