???? Professional Background Overview:
I previously worked as Head of Direct Sales and Marketing for multiple National food subscription businesses, managing remote teams across the country, and managing a team of roughly 300 sales reps.
???? What motivated your decision to venture into running your own business?
I always wanted to run my own business but never found something I could really engage with. After 2 redundancies within 4 years, I decided to leap in 2019.
???? What factors influenced your selection of Greensleeves as your franchising avenue?
I had been a Greensleeves customer myself for 7 years, so understood the proposition from a customer perspective and had a good understanding of what they did. I felt it was a strong business model and played well with my previous corporate experience.
???? From a managerial perspective, what aspect of operating a Greensleeves franchise yields the most satisfaction?
I benefit from every ounce of effort that goes into running the business. I get out of the business what I put into it.
???? Reflecting on your tenure as a Greensleeves franchisee, what achievement stands out as particularly noteworthy?
I would say winning Greensleeves Franchisee of the Year within 3 years of ownership was a real highlight for me.
???? In what ways has your ownership of a Greensleeves franchise facilitated opportunities wise, that you wouldn’t have been able to do previously?
I’ve been able to build the kind of business I want to work in. We support and reward our staff well and we want them to continue working for us. This is absolutely key.
???? What advice would you impart to individuals contemplating franchise ownership?
You must be willing to graft to fully understand what it takes to build a business within Greensleeves. The rewards both professionally and personally, once you have built a multi-van business, it makes all the initial hard work worthwhile.
???? Reflecting on your franchise journey, what insights have you gained about yourself?
Patience, drive to succeed, and work ethic.
???? Outside of work commitments, how do you typically spend your leisure time?
I really enjoy spending time with the family. Golf and lots more golf!
???? What are your aspirations for personal and professional development within the upcoming five-year horizon?
I would say my professional aspiration would be to break that £1m turnover milestone. Personally, I would love to get away on more family holidays
???? What strategic objectives have you outlined for the advancement of your franchise over the subsequent 5 years?
I would love to increase further Direct Debit uptake, including a drive of Lawn Care Packages. Optimise the net profit ratio. I also see reducing customer churn and increasing average customer spend as key targets for us.
???? How valuable did you find not only the initial training but the ongoing support from your franchisor?
My initial training was fantastic and comprehensive, ongoing support has adapted over time to meet my revised requirements as a franchise that is now fully functional. Nick, our Business Development Manager, is always on hand to provide support and offer advise where needed, which is invaluable.
????️ If you serve on the advisory council, how do you assess its efficacy in fostering communication between franchisees and the franchisor?
The FAC (Franchise Advisory Council) is a crucial tool in providing a stream of communication, both ways, between the franchise network and the Franchisor. It allows ideas to be tested, to receive feedback, and to grow the franchise solution through collective input.
???? What are the primary advantages associated with membership in a franchise network?
The main advantage is having a fully packaged business. Complete with operational, IT, Marketing, and business support, that simply wouldn’t be available to someone starting their own business from scratch.
???? Lastly, for prospective franchisees considering taking the plunge, what message would you give them?
If you are commercially minded and willing to put in the effort to build a business, the rewards are enormous. I can run my business and manage my staff in the way I want but with all the corporate benefits of being part of a much larger business.
