This site amounts to some 5.105 acres, historically a part of Ty’n Lantern
which has been demolished leaving the land cleared at some point although
in need of further development. Its proximity to the port and location within
the Anglesey Enterprise Zone, coupled with its location adjacent to the
proposed Freeport potentially make this a noteworthy site. The land is
bounded by the port to the north and west. Adjoining sites in private
ownership include Huws Gray Builders Merchants and the Kempston
Controls factory. Access is off Turkey Shore Road.
The property lies west of Holyhead town centre and occupies coastal position
adjacent to Holyhead Port. The Port of Holyhead is a commercial and ferry
port handling freight and more than 2 million passengers each year and
covering an area of some 240 hectares. The port is the principal link for
crossings from north Wales and central and northern England to Ireland.
Junction 1 (Kingsland Roundabout) of the A55 Expressway is some 0.5 miles
distant and is accessible off Turkey Shore Road.
FREEPORT This site is situated adjacent the North Anglesey freeport zone.
The draft Outline Business Case for the Anglesey Freeport is currently under
review by the Welsh Government and HMRC with subsequent terms to be
agreed between the local authority and the landowner. The primary focus of
the freeport will be the development of the Energy Island Programme (EIP),
specifically emphasising marine energy technology. Its overarching goal is to
position the region as a frontrunner in low-carbon energy generation, as well
as in research and development. Additionally, the freeport aims to facilitate
seamless access between Ireland and mainland Europe via the UK landbridge.
