Description

Bollhayes Cider was established in 1988 by the existing owner and currently produces both sparkling cider and perry, still bottled cider and bag-in-box and pouched draught cider. Its primary route to market is through trade fairs / farmer’s markets etc, although there are a number of trade customers, and sales are also made through its website.

The business has been run on a lifestyle basis and for the last 7 years, the owner has not been involved on a day-to-day basis. Operations and management are handled by 2 self-employed personnel, each on a part-time basis. All roles could be fulfilled by an owner choosing to work part time in the business (an average of 20-25 hours per week through the year).

The business is run from a 12m x 6m building with cold water supply and domestic single phase electricity supply. While the business currently presses its own apple juice, it is possible that the new owner will prefer to buy in the apple juice. Hence the business is offered, either including or excluding a twin-bed hydraulic press and milling machine with elevator, required for the production of the raw ingredient apple juice.

The business is currently operated on a ‘tick over’ basis with little time spent on new products or marketing activities. This therefore presents a significant opportunity to new owners of the business.

Revenue is typically c £35k to £40k per year, delivering a profit before owner drawings of c £14k (assuming the owner performs all roles within the business). The guide price for assets and goodwill is £29,000 + stock at value excluding the pressing equipment, which can be purchased for an additional £13,000. The fermentation tanks are not offered for sale, but sufficient fermentation capacity could be purchased for about £1,500.

While the new owner will need to move the business from its current location, the vendor will be flexible and supportive over those arrangements and will offer 5 days handover support to include apple selection, setting up equipment in a new premises, pressing and fermentation, bottling and the traditional method process. Additionally occasional telephone and email support would be offered for 12 months from the sale. One of the staff members is also happy to be available for 5 days to support handover of the processing methodology, and to make introductions to the key events organisers who are keen to maintain their relationship with Bollhayes Cider.

The business is being marketed by SellMySmallBusiness.co.uk. Please do not attempt to contact the vendor directly.
